Brownsville is located in the south region of the Willamette Valley and has a population of 1668 (by 2010 census data). Stand By Me was filmed in the town in the mid-1980s and a 5K run is named after the body found in the movie–Ray Brower Memorial 5K Run.
The Spaulding School in Brownsville served as the original county courthouse. Brownsville was named in honor of Hugh L. Brown, who settled there in 1846 and opened the first store.
